Gloria Newton is a Nashville-based painter whose work explores intuitive abstraction inspired by the textures, rhythms, and changing light of the natural world. Her paintings begin with spontaneous mark-making and evolve through layered acrylic and mixed media materials to create depth, movement and luminosity.
Newton has exhibited throughout Tennessee and the Southeast, including exhibitions at the Huntsville Museum of Art, the Parthenon Gallery Museum in Nashville, and Leu Gallery. Her work has received multiple juried exhibition awards and has been published in New Art International. She was also featured in Nashville Arts Magazine in 2014.
From 2014 to 2018 Newton exhibited regularly at Harpeth Art Center & Gallery in Pegram, Tennessee, and she continues to present private studio exhibitions for collectors and patrons.
Her husband and creative partner is veteran Nashville songwriter and Grammy-winning songwriter Wood Newton. In addition to his musical career, he is an accomplished wood sculptor and craftsman who creates custom frames for Newton’s artwork.
